How did you get started with your current business?

My business began long before I ever opened my doors. For years, I was immersed in studying Ayurveda and yoga while slowly beginning to teach. As the dream of having my own space grew clearer, I started offering private lessons in people's homes, which allowed me to practice yoga therapy even without a studio.

Around the same time, I taught yoga in a physical therapy office, an experience that shaped me more than I expected. Working with students who were new to yoga and recovering from injuries expanded my skill set and deepened my understanding of therapeutic movement.

When I eventually chose to open my first space, it happened in the very same building where I had been teaching. The owner of the physical therapy practice decided to discontinue their yoga program and encouraged all of my students to follow me into my new studio. Her support helped me open with a strong foundation and a community already in place.

Starting a business often means laying the groundwork long before the doors open—learning, practicing, building relationships, and being supported by people who believe in your vision. My path unfolded through those early experiences, each one preparing me for the moment I stepped into my own space.

Why do people choose your business over others?

People choose Soma Yoga Healing Center because it feels like coming home. Our space is intentionally warm, inclusive, and community centered — a place where you can meet your neighbors and every student is seen, supported, and welcomed exactly as they are. We offer deeply personalized guidance rooted in yoga therapy, mindful movement, and Ayurveda yoga. Our community is built on genuine relationships, not performance or perfection. And our staff lives what we teach, showing you how to take yoga off the mat and into your life. At Soma Yoga, people don't just take a class — they experience a space where they can breathe, soften, reconnect, and rediscover their inner joy.

What advice do you have for others who may be thinking about opening a similar business?

If you're thinking about opening a healing‑centered business, begin with intention — a real, grounded, soul‑level intention. This work asks for more than enthusiasm; it asks for a deep hunger to serve, to hold space, and to keep showing up even when the path feels uncertain.

Before you think about branding, scheduling, or logistics, get clear on why you're doing this and what you want people to feel when they walk through your doors. This industry can be beautiful and fulfilling, but it's also demanding. Your intention becomes your anchor. When challenges arise — and they will — your guiding light is what keeps you steady, honest, and aligned.

Stay connected to the heart of your work, not the noise around it. Let your values lead your decisions, your offerings, and the way you show up for your community.

And finally, remember that this is relational work. People aren't choosing your business because of perfection; they're choosing you because of your presence, your integrity, and the way you make them feel safe and seen. If you stay rooted in that, everything else can be learned, built, or refined over time.

What do you think is next for your industry?

The next evolution of the wellness industry is a return to what people are craving most: real connection, in‑person relationships, and experiences that help them feel alive again. After years of digital saturation, people are seeking spaces where they can step away from screens, breathe deeply, and be held in community.

Retreats are becoming the heart of this shift. We're moving toward offerings that are less about information and more about embodiment — learning through doing, feeling, and being. People want to immerse themselves in practices that help them reconnect with their bodies, their intuition, and each other. They want to be guided, supported, and witnessed in real time.

Retreats offer something that weekly classes or online content can't replicate: spaciousness, presence, and the chance to experience transformation in a concentrated, intentional container. The future of this industry lies in creating environments where people can slow down, share meaningful moments, and rediscover their inner joy through experiential, heart‑centered work. In many ways, we're circling back to the roots of healing — gathering, practicing, and growing together.

Do you have a specific goal or mission for your business?

Yes. My mission is to help people reconnect with their inner joy so they can live their most vibrant, authentic life. I want every person who walks into my space to know that healing is possible — that we are not victims of what happens around us, and that we hold far more power and resilience within us than we often realize.

At the heart of my work is the belief that when we gain mental clarity, regulate and ground the nervous system, and bring the physical body back into balance, something profound happens. We begin to feel like ourselves again. We make choices from steadiness rather than stress. We experience life with more presence, ease, and possibility.

This kind of alignment is transformational, and it ripples into every part of a person's life. My goal is to offer practices, tools, and experiences that support this reconnection — helping people slow down, breathe deeply, and return to the joy that has always been inside them. Ultimately, I want my business to be a place where people feel supported, empowered, and reminded of their own capacity to heal and thrive.
